Girls suffer from numerous forms of violence from a very young age simply because they are girls.
I recently found myself in front of a small group of young women who briefly explained the numerous sexual assaults they have endured from a very young age. A forced kiss is not just a little peck, it is a sexual assault. Looking under girls’ skirts is not curiosity, it is voyeurism.
Identify and Act in Your Own Way
Idea: Individually or in small groups, identify all the aggressions committed against you.
- Identify how the penal code names this type of act (we are not at the stage of filing a complaint or providing evidence, initial question: what is what you have experienced called legally).
- Identify the conscious or unconscious strategies you have put in place to cope.
- Identify what was offered to protect you (someone recently brought up the old idea of cyclist shorts under dresses and skirts… well, that’s not what prevented sexual assaults).
- Once the picture is drawn… what do you wish to do with it?
